COGUS introduced 3D and 4D Obstetric ultrasound scanning into Victoria in 1998 using the Voluson Kretz ultrasound scanner. 3D scans are also performed in gynaecological conditions to better improve the diagnostic accuracy as compared with 2D ultrasound scanning. 3D ultrasound views of the foetal face may be obtained in most cases but not possible when the face is concealed by fetal forearm, hands, placental tissue, reduced amniotic fluid volume or when the fetus faces the maternal spine.

3D views of the fetus are generally best obtained between 12 weeks and 34 gestational weeks.

In general, samples of ultrasound scan pictures and CD (compact disk ROMs) are provided to the pregnant patients at no extra costs. Non pregnant patients are only issued with a printed report of the ultra sound examination and sonograms are not issued by the clinic at all.
